Getting To Know Me

Sunday Gratitude

KittiesIt’s confession time: I have been complaining a lot lately  Just last night, at work, to my co-workers I was bemoaning how this summer was almost over and I felt like I missed it.  This morning, while meeting to plan the school year for my son who home-schools, I bemoaned how this was the worst summer I’ve ever had.

‘Just one day,’ I complained, ‘One afternoon is all I’ve spent t the beach.’

And it’s true.  This has been a summer of working and running errands and not a lot of just relaxing and enjoying the family.  But that doesn’t mean it’s been awful.  So when I read Jan’s grateful post at One Story Down, it jolted me.  And I realized I too need to focus on things I am thankful for.

So here goes:

  • my boys have had a lot of cool activities this summer, from camps to sleepovers to days on end with their friends staying over at our house.
  • I have a great new job, which pays better than my last one and gives me a great sense of purpose when I am there.  I feel like I am really helping people. It’s kept me busy this summer, but boosted the family income which was necessary.
  • I have a great new store that I am excited about and opening there has given me a much-needed mojo boost.  This has lead to many horus in front of the computer, and many 3 or 4 am mornings, but it has awakened a creativity in me that I was sorely missing.
  • school starting means a return to cool activities like Cadets, Scouts, and swim club.  I love watching the boys grow and learn through these programs, I feel like they gain things I could never give them myself.
  • it’s hot, sunny, and beautiful here.
  • there’s two weeks of summer left!  I need to stop thinking in my mind that summer is over.  It isn’t!  I need to enjoy what is left!

Listing those things really does help me!  Do you have things you are feeling thankful about today?
